Waste Management - Plastic Bottles
I was reading a blog on why plastic bottles should be done away with in the third world. It gave me a thought. What if bottled water companies had refilling stations everywhere rather than selling bottles. An example - a refilling station could be at a supermarket or gas station. This way a consumer would be able to use just one bottle, clean it and reuse. That could solve the plastic problem. The distribution of the water would still add to the carbon footprint of the bottled water companies, but at least the footprint contributed by using plastic would be reduced.
Avoid Polythene Bags
Never entertain shopkeepers who give Polythene bags... rather carry a Cloth/Paper BAGs from your home or ask shop keepers for PAPER bags. Polythene bags cannot be recycled , and they stay for 1000 years in the Soil , and is harm for animals, and fertility of LAND. Being ECO friendly is most important.
Unplug your appliances every night, save electricity & reduce your carbon footprint
By unplugging your appliances, you can save hundereds of Rupees/dollars a year whle you sleep. While you rest, so do your appliances.
Receipts usage
i think some places should ask you if you want a receipt before they print one. say you buy a coffee at a local coffee shop and the cashier hands you a receipt, what are you going to do with it? throw it away...right? its not like your going to return it and if you do it\'s going to be right away so he/she should remember you. if this idea could be could be introduced into restaurants, convenience stores, coffee shops or any place you don\'t need a receipts from, just imagine the paper we would save. also the money that the company would save since they have to buy less receipt paper.
Paper or Plastic? Neither! Take your own bag shopping!
Next time you go shopping take a few empty bags and say no to plastic or paper. Less plastic bags in the landfill is a good thing. Also, less paper bags mean more trees, which means less carbon and more oxygen. Isn't that special?
An Idea for the Global Economy and the environment
Consumerism has driven the globe to the staggering growth levels we have seen over the past 20 years. Countries such as India and China with their massive populations and the burgeoning consumer populations have fueled growth rates as high as 12% annually respectively. People in general love to shop and collect whatever makes them happy. This is a common social trait among societies with capitalistic economies (yes China) that people want to keep up with the Joneses. With all this growth however the downside has been the negative impact upon the environment. India and China have been consuming tremendous amounts of Natural resources to fuel the growth and will even surpass the US as the biggest polluting nations. The one bright spot that I see is the opportunity to tap the social energy for growth and capitalism, specifically in a un-favorable global economy. America wants things cheap and the rest of the world wants America to buy from them in order to keep their economies growing.
Time to plant the peace tree
The simplest way is to plant one tree every 1 month of 2.
It’s always better to start with the simplest way rather looking or waiting for some one to come with a technology which will help green. I think I can make change and contribute, as I have planted 3 plants in past 1 year... and I am happy about it. as i have contributed O2 to the coming generation who don’t even know what we are heading towards in feature.
Use compact fluorescent lightbulbs and save 75% energy
With fluorescent bulbs you can save about 75% of energy consumption when compared to incandescent bulbs.
Bottle that Flatulence
Have you ever wondered if flatulence or eructation have any impact on the environment? With 6 billion people on the planet and more on their way every day it is possible to image that there would be some impact however big or small. Cal State Frenso, a university in the central valley of California along with Pacifi Gas and Electric are attempting to capture the flatulence of cows in order produce bio gas for use as energy. One of the components of flatulence, of course is methane, a known gas to the "greenhouse effect." But the population of cattle is defeinately smaller than that of the human population and if it actually worth PG&E to investigate the use of bio gas of this type then there must enough quantity to make it potentially viable. Livestock according to a study by Houweling (1999) livestock produce about 115 Tg/a or 19% of the total emissions. To me this puts the human gasses in perspective.
Go for laptop
Switch to a laptop instead of using a desktop computer and cut three-quarters off your electrical use. Turn off the laptop at the end of the day.
Check and Reduce Carbon Dioxide contribution CO2.
You can reduce Carbon Footprint, Carbon Footprint is amount of Greenhouse Gas emitted by buring fossil fules like Petrol, Diesel, Kersosene, Wood, etc. Greenhouse Gas also includes Carbon Dioxide.
We can reduce the amount of CO2 that is emitted in the environment by take the following simple steps:
1. Avoid using cars and bikes for small distances
2. There is no need to warm up your engine during start up. You could just drive the car or bike as well. 3. Try to avoid sudden acceleration, engine revving, and sudden braking as this might use 34% more fuel.
4. Avoid using air conditioning as this will save gas.
5. Buy a Carbon Efficient Car
